They were supposed to spend the rest of their lives together…

In the wake of her husband’s death, Alice Deaton will do anything to hold her family together. But with life handing her challenge after challenge, will her faith crack under the strain? Or will a kind stranger be able to offer refuge that Alice and her two small children so desperately need?

The Grace That Leads Us Home A Short Story Prequel to What Once Was Lost edition by Kim Vogel Sawyer Religion Spirituality eBooks

Alice Deaton was happily married to Oscar with two children, Laura and Francis in Florence, Kansas. That was until Oscar went to help an elderly neighbor and had a heart attack and died. Now Alice has to find a way to support the children and herself on no income, the home they rent is paid for through Oscar's paycheck so she doesn't even know if they'll have a roof over their head. Oh, and when she went to apply for a job at the bank, the banker ends up telling her that Oscar has owed him money for three years, so now does she not get a job but she owes him money she didn't know about. She struggles without telling anyone about what a hard time she's having, that is until the preacher's wife finds a crumpled up letter from Alice's widowed sister-in-law telling her that she has no room for them to come and live there.

This was a short quick read and I'm now wondering what will happen to Alice, Laura and Francis. Alice appears to be a woman who will do anything to for her children so we will see how the future turns out when I read What Once Was Lost, I'm really looking forward to it.

The Grace That Leads Us Home A Short Story Prequel to What Once Was Lost edition by Kim Vogel Sawyer Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I just recently discovered Kim Vogel Sawyer's books. I have read two and intend to read many more. I enjoyed the fact that they are wonderful Christian stories.
I had some difficulty downloading it for some reason. The short story was good and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
What a sweet surprise this little story was!! We never really hear about struggles women did and still do raising children after loosing their husband. What sweet wonderful kids too not greedy like so many today. I really wish there was a sequel!!
I would love to learn what happened after the family moved.,did they find happiness in their new situation? Did Alice find someone new? She was still young.
The Grace That Leads Us Home is a very heartfelt short story prequel that gives background into a family that will be involved in the novel What Once Was Lost. I found this to be a very beautifully written story that took me about forty-five minutes to read.

After a loss to their family, Alice Deaton feels abandoned by God. She struggles to provide for her small family, and things just seem to pile up and become overwhelming. Will Alice learn to rely on God again? Has He truly abandoned her family or will His grace shine through in the end? I am very excited to read What Once Was Lost now that I have read this captivating introduction.
I am so glad I decided to read this prequel before reading "What Once Was Lost". I would have missed some sweet, tender and heartbreaking moments in Alice Denton's and her two small children's life prior to "What Once Was Lost".

Alice's young daughter had such an unwavering faith in God and in her mother. Which in turn gave Alice the strength she needed to carry on with her life whatever path God chose for them.

The author has wrapped up "WHAT ONCE WAS LOST" with the prequel, the novel and a short story extra. It's like a beautifully gift wrapped package just waiting to be enjoyed.

Reading this prequel is an option. "What One Was Lost" is a stand alone read and "Just As I Am" is extra. But I highly recommend reading all three.

Disclosure I purchase a copy of this book for my own personal pleasure. This review is my honest opinion and was in no way compensated for this review.
After reading What Once Was Lost, I couldn't wait to get my hands on its prequel, The Grace That Leads Us Home.

This eShort claims new territory for Kim Vogel Sawyer. She had never before written a book of any size specifically for eReaders. It is my hope that she will continue to explore this venue to provide more inside looks into the characters that don't get quite as much attention in the full-sized novels she releases.

In a time when an $18.00 debt was insurmountable, Oscar Deaton perishes, leaving his wife to repay a loan she knew nothing about. Atop that, she also has to raise their two young children. Times are tough and jobs are scarcely available. Will widow Alice Deaton find employment in time to pay the month's rent and the loan looming over her? If she does find a position, will it pay enough to feed and clothe her children in the harsh winter months? Or will she have to resort to begging for her children's supper?

My heart broke in two when Alice wondered, in chapter one, "How would she and the children survive without Oscar?" I've seen hard times before and relied on God to provide for my family, so I well understood the desperate place Alice found herself in. When you're down and out, you face difficult decisions you had never thought you'd have to make in your life. It's times like those when we find out what we're really made of. Do we have the courage to carry on when the outcome looks bleak? Do we have the strength to follow the instructions of Ephesians 613? "Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand." (ASV)

It is my prayer for each of you to obtain the courage and faith it takes to stand firm when all else fails. May God be with you and your families during times of plenty and seasons of struggle.
